Education: Urban Toddler Summer Camps ease separation anxiety with fun activities for kids

Once again, My Urban Toddler Summer Camps in Saline are standing out among other camps with a schedule sure to please parents of even the youngest campers.  What’s the difference?  Parents are onsite, but not part of the camp activities.  This model helps kids as young as 2 years old (and parents too!) begin a transition of separation, without being out of reach.

“It’s a good introduction to a pre-school environment,” says Rosa Lee, owner of My Urban Toddler.  “We have early childhood professionals using their skills to teach the kids in a fun way.”

With parents onsite, potty-training is not a requirement, and campers have the opportunity to enjoy the famous My Urban Toddler play space for thirty minutes before and after camp hours for free.

Camps are in two-hour blocks for morning or afternoon.  The Summer Camps program begins June 18, and there are 10 weeks planned.  Parents can pick and choose which weeks to enroll.  Whimsical themes each week include Little Sports, Knights & Princesses, Fantastic Foods, Wild Wild West, and more.

“During our Community Helpers week, we’ll have different visitors each day, like a fire truck, police car and ambulance,” Lee says.

Each week will include a mix of activities including playing non-competitive sports, creating craft projects, stories, and special visitors.  The last day of the week is a celebration where parents are invited to see what the children have learned, whether that means taking part in a sports field day, or watching a show Under the Big Top.

So what’s a parent to do during two hours of down time while their campers are busy?  Plenty!  The café at My Urban Toddler will be open with hearty soups and snacks, there will be planned parent activities for those who want to participate, and there is always shopping.

“We are really excited to be bringing in women’s apparel in addition to our before-during-after maternity line,” Lee says.  She and the store’s co-owner will travel in April to attend the Atlanta Apparel Market to create the spring and summer line for the store.

“We’ll have new, upscale, boutique-quality clothes for women,” Lee says. “Everything from casual to upscale.”

My Urban Toddler is known for its high-quality designer fashions and accessories for maternity, and now will house designers like Michal Stars, Cupio, and Laurie B for all women.

Lee is excited about the new line, and women will shop knowing their purchases are right in line with what is new on the runway.  “Lightweight scarves, fun bracelets and colored denim are all current now,” Lee says.  My Urban Toddler is planning a fashion show in the near future to showcase the new line of women’s wear.
