David Mielke joins Editorial Board at AnnArbor.com

By Tony Dearing

David Mielke, dean of the College of Business at Eastern Michigan University, has joined the Editorial Board at AnnArbor.com.

A former dean of the business schools at Marquette University and Grand Valley State University, he came to EMU in 2004. He has an MBA from the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Wisconsin.

Mielke joins two other community members on our Editorial Board. The board meets weekly to discuss local issues and formulate the positions that AnnArbor.com takes in the editorials that appear in print and online every Sunday.

Community members serve a four-month term on the Editorial Board and then rotate off. Mielke replaces Mary Cullen Guttman, whose term on the board ended in March. The other community members currently serving are David Canter and Stephen Ranzini. The board also includes Matt Kraner, Laurel Champion and Tony Dearing of the AnnArbor.com staff.

Mielke has a strong background in energy projects, economic development and international partnerships. While at EMU, he has established partnership agreements with universities in Korea, China, India, Pakistan and Yemen to bring students to EMU. He's also led the efforts of the College of Business to initiate a graduate Human Resources degree program in China.

His community activities include serving on the executive board of Ann Arbor SPARK, the board of the Washtenaw Economic Club, and on the investment board for the Great Sauk Trail Boy Scout Council. Mielke writes a regular column for AnnArbor.com's Business Review and has a weekly radio show on business ethics.
