Zippy Auto Wash hopes to open second location in Scio Township

Zippy Auto Wash is in the early stages of planning for a second location in the Ann Arbor area.

The company is proposing to build a new car wash on a vacant lot next to Burger King on Zeeb Road south of Jackson Road in Scio Township. The conditional use of the property was approved by the Scio Township planning commission this week and now goes before its Board of Trustees for approval.

Owners and Saline residents Corey Weaver and Michelle Weaver opened their original car wash in December 2007 at 233 W. Ellsworth in Pittsfield Township. The couple said their long-term plan has always been to open another location based on its success.

“The (Scio Township) location is an area we have been looking at for some time,” said Corey Weaver, who also works full time as an engineer at Ford Motor Company. “It obviously has had some significant retail growth in the last five to seven years.”

The second location will have the same emphasis on customer service from a uniformed staff. The car wash will feature a blue roof and all-white interior to give a “nice bright, clean appearance,” Corey said.

“We sell clean; therefore we want the site to present that same image," he said.

Car washes range from $6 to $12, depending on the level of services. The most popular is the "unlimited bath pass," a flat monthly fee of $29.99 a month that allows customers to use the car wash as often as they want that month.

They also offer gift cards and pre-paid cards, which are a popular fundraiser with local organizations. A twist on the traditional car washes many youth organizations hold at busy intersections, this allows students to sell car wash passes to Zippy Auto Wash and keep 50 percent of the sticker price for their organization.

“Not only is this environmentally friendly, but kids don’t get wet or rained out,” said Weaver. “They sell a one-month gift card, get half the proceeds, and we do all the hard work.”

He said the new location should be a positive addition on that side of the township. “We try to make it attractive with the architecture and landscaping," he said.

He said he hopes this application process will go as smoothly as it did with Pittsfield Township for the site on Ellsworth. He hopes to open the new car wash sometime next year.
