Alternative energy firm BioDri to add 337 Michigan jobs in Blissfield

By Nathan Bomey

An Orlando, Fla.-based company whose desalination technology has alternative energy applications plans to add 337 jobs in an expansion in Blissfield, about 45 minutes south of Ann Arbor.

The firm, BioDri, plans to invest $39.5 million to accelerate its growth, the Adrian Daily Telegram reported. The company will initially receive $3.1 million in state incentives for the new operation, which will include research, production and sales, the Toledo Blade reported.

The company's technology, which has multiple applications, can "convert algae, soybeans, and brown, greasetrap greases into renewable energy biofuel feedstock," the Daily Telegram said.

Last I heard algae biofuels retail cost is projected to be around $30/gal. there has been some chatter that the cost could be brought down as low as $5/gal, with HUGE leaps in tech. That still puts it at a comparable $200/barrel. someday that may be a deal, but right now I am not sold on the potential of algae biofuels. I am sold on the idea of 300 new (hopefully high paying!) jobs in the Bliss area though. Maybe this company will make some breakthroughs. Till then, CONSERVation is the key to our energy problems. Now if we could only convince the CONSERVatives that CONSERVation is not a liberal plot to take over the world and that "drill baby" is not a plan.
