Google’s March 26th Request for Information (RFI) deadline is quickly approaching. The City of Ann Arbor and University of Michigan are diligently striving to meet it.

The list of community supporters is growing. It now includes the Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce and most recently Ann Arbor City Council.

At its March 15th meeting City Council formally adopted a resolution urging selection of Ann Arbor as a Google Fiber trial community. The hope is to bring Google’s ultra-high speed broadband network here for the benefit of the Ann Arbor area as a whole.

A2Fiber has launched a YouTube channel for community members to create videos in support of Ann Arbor’s bid. And Lunch Ann Arbor Marketing (LA2M) recently held a YouTube Fan Video Contest to encourage members to create videos for Ann Arbor’s YouTube channel. Videos are available here.

Google has indicated that a major component of the selection process is community support and participation. Your help is needed!

Rotate Your Food!

The Rotary Clubs of Ann Arbor, Dexter, Saline and Ypsilanti have invited the community to join them in participating in a Spring Canned Food Drive.

The Rotary Clubs have partnered with Washtenaw County’s food rescue/food bank program, Food Gatherers, in the fight against local hunger. Starting March 15 through Saturday, March 27, more than 80 local businesses and organizations will be working with the Rotary Club during the 6th Annual Rotate Your Food Drive.

Currently, almost 44,000 individuals in Washtenaw County _ including more than 14,000 children and 6,500 seniors _ receive emergency food each year through Food Gatherers’ distribution to local food pantries and meal sites.

These people include the elderly, homeless, long-term and newly unemployed individuals, families and individuals with incomes below the federal poverty level and the working poor. Food donation programs in our county have become increasingly important as the economy continues to force individuals to make painful choices between shelter, healthcare, utilities and food.

The Ann Arbor Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to be one of the drop-off locations for the Rotate Your Food Spring Canned Food Drive.

We will gladly accept any non-perishable food that you are able to contribute; however, tuna, peanut butter, canned meats, stew, hearty soup, chili, beans, baby food/formula and Ensure are highly recommended. Unopened hotel size soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste and diapers are also needed.

The Chamber offices are open Monday - Friday from 9am - 5pm.
