Ann Arbor area shoe stores deluged with shoppers seeking Nike's Air Jordan XI Space Jams
Got your Nike Air Jordan XI Retro Space Jams yet? If you're hot on the trail of the highly anticipated shoes, you aren't alone.
Shoe stores in the Ann Arbor region are being deluged with shoppers seeking the Nike shoes released this morning. They're officially called the Air Jordan XI Retro, but fans are referring to them as "Space Jams" since they look like the shoes Michael Jordan wore in the 1996 movie "Space Jam."
Local shoe stores are getting bombarded with shoppers seeking the Air Jordan XI Retro Space Jams, which cost $175.

At Puffer Red's in Ypsilanti, about 30 shoppers waited in frigid temperatures for the store to open two hours early at 8 a.m. By 10 a.m. the store had already sold "a couple hundred" pairs and was almost sold out, store owner Tandra Williams said.
"It’s a little more hype on this one," she said.Briarwood Mall avoided a last-minute holiday shopping melee after police were called to maintain order in the crowd of shoppers trying to score the new shoes early this morning.
Champs Sports and Foot Locker - both owned by New York-based Foot Locker Inc. - opened hours early to sell the shoes.
Briarwood Mall General Manager Ida Hendrix said about 60 customers were "anxiously” gathering to buy the $175 shoes. She said no scuffles or fights broke out.
“We proactively called Ann Arbor (police) just to make sure that there was line control,” Hendrix said.
Foot Locker corporate officials could not be reached for comment, and a Champs store manager at Briarwood declined to comment.

That's a classic shoe in a classic colorway that was never released at retail originally, only as a retro. On most sneaker "best of" lists, it's top 5 all time. There's a reason that people were lining up. Nice to read a little on the sneaker game. Puffer Red's is one of the top spots in the country. To get a couple hundred pairs is pretty rare territory for a store.

I bought a pair of Jordan's a few years ago. I think they were about $150. I can honestly say it was the most comfortable pair of basketball shoes I've ever had. So, yeah, I'd spend $175 on a pair of shoes that won't break my ankles. Also, I wanna be like Mike :)

Peter, Why don't you and everyone else that complains all day about these kinds of stories start your own online newspaper and go do that all day? Have you ever heard of hot selling Christmas items? Casue I have...my entire life....from the news. Personally I haven't had a pair of Airs since 86 on the first run (well they were hand me down a little later), but it takes some real brass to release these under the name of Space Jam.

I think its an unteresting story, and would answer any questions one might have about why there are mobs of people lined up outside local shoe stores. That being said, I think the shoes are hideous. And I wonder what kind of blithering fool would spent $170.00 on these monstrosities.

Ugh. Pick up an actual newspaper sometime. Do they split it into two parts based on your personal interest versus things you personally don't care to know? Maybe you should pay attention to the topics categories that actually do split the news into "parts". The topics for this article are tagged as "Topics: Business Review, News, Shopping, Ypsilanti".

Perhaps in the interest of some sort of journalistic integrity, this site could be split into two parts - one for stories with actual depth, and another for fluff filler pieces about popular shoes.
