Ann Arbor’s Sole Sisters boutique has a new address.

The women’s shoe shop, formerly located at 207 S. Fourth Ave., has moved around the corner to 209 E. Liberty St. to the space formerly held by Tortoise and Hare Running and Fitness Center.

“We wanted something a little bit larger so we could offer a little bit more,” owner Tamar Fowler said.

Fowler opened Sole Sisters with her husband Kent in July of 2008, selling trendy shoe styles, accessories and some clothing.

Now, with nearly 400 additional square feet, Sole Sisters has even more to offer.

Fowler said she’s expanded her shoe lines to include more comfortable brands such as Groundhog and Sergio Tomani. She said her shop will also consistently sell women’s clothing, which was only available on occasion before.

“We’re just adding on more comfort-level shoes and variety,” she said. “Now we have (new clothes) coming every month.”

And those looking to try on the clothes will have better luck as well. The new location has two dressing rooms, a far cry from the small bathroom patrons had to change in before.

While Fowler said business has been strong, she’s hoping the move to Liberty Street will increase her exposure. She said she likes the location between State and Main streets.

“We were doing a lot of advertising over there (on Fourth Avenue) and people still didn’t know about us,” she said. “I like the idea of being on a connecting block where everyone walks down.”

Sole Sisters will host a grand re-opening from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 17. Fowler said the event will include food and discounts.

Good to see Tamar is willing to bet on downtown Ann Arbor with a vote of optimism! She has a good eye for style and we hope she'll develop a strong customer base which will add to the downtown shopping experience. Congrats on the expansion!

The owners have "good eyes" for fashion but previously had mostly higher-heeled shoes that I cannot wear. Am delighted they are expanding their merchandise to include lower heeled "comfort" shoes that will still be at the high level of style as in their previous location. Prices are reasonable too! Keep carrying the cool jewelry and purses at your affordable price point!
