Long-closed Mobil gas station on Washtenaw reopened Friday

By Paula Gardner

More than two years after it closed, the Mobil gas station on Washtenaw just east of US-23 has re-opened for business.

New owner Misty Filsinger opened the Pittsfield Township gas station on Friday.

The opening followed a month of waiting for all of the final inspections to conclude, she said.

"There are so many more to do on a closed gas station as opposed to one that is already in operation," she wrote in an email.

Filsinger is a former employee at the station, 4005 Washtenaw, under a previous owner. She said she bought the station because she believes it's a solid location for that type of business.

The opening includes free coffee, soda and popcorn for customers, she said, with more specials to be announced later.

Don't think of it as a higher price being charged for using credit, think of it as a "cash discount" as one reader stated. The margins on gasoline are thin, and credit card companies charge 3% of each transaction as a fee, so there is where your discount lies.

I hope they do offer a discount for cash purchases. It saves me money, and that much more of my purchase stays local instead of getting paid to some multinational credit card company.

I hate to point out that you're buying *gas*... I'm going to wager that it wasn't drilled in Washtenaw County.

They don't offer a "discount" for cash! That's the price, they just charge MORE for credit cards, while reaping the benefits of having credit card services. If they are so against credit card purchases, don't accept them for anything! Won't patronize any establishment that tries to have it both ways. Good luck with location, this place will be out of business within six months to a year!

Worst ever ergonomics for getting out of this place after filling up. As another poster said, please charge the same price for credit purchases as you do for cash. Almost all of us go for the cheapest price though I always try and buy Exxon Mobil name brand because of the better detergent additives. Good Day

Won't ever go there. Will not comply with the cash v. credit price on gas!

I read the earlier story, and see that the sign indicates two prices. While some stations only have 1 price, they are pocketing the discount. Use Gas Buddy to find the lowest price.

Glad to see the station re-opened. Now please do not conform to other area gas stations and their higher Ann Arbor-style gas prices!
