Metro Detroit jobless rates weaker than state's as a whole
Joblessness in metro Detroit grew at a faster rate than in the state as a whole during the third quarter of this year, an article in Crain's Detroit Business says
The unemployment rate in the six-county Detroit metropolitan area grew 2.1 percentage points over the quarter and 8.2 percentage points over the year to 17.3 percent, Crain's said.
"By comparison, Michigan's rate rose 1 percentage point from second quarter to third quarter and 6.3 percentage points over the year to 15 percent," Crain's said.
The Ann Arbor area had a 9.7 percent unemployment rate in the third quarter, half a percentage point increase from the previous quarter but up 3 percentage points from a year ago.
