Chelsea has its second brick-and-mortar computer store with the opening of The Computer Source.

The 901 South Main St. location is the second store for Loveesh Thatai. His other store is located at 108 W. Michigan Ave., in Grass Lake.

Thatai said he’d been looking for a Chelsea location for two years and moved into a former bagel shop near the intersection of Old US 12 and M-52 earlier this month. He plans a grand opening Friday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

“I live and breathe this,” Thatai said of his computer business, which has three employees including John Marzec, general manager.

Thatai said he’s been working with computers since he was 13, opened his first business in 2004, and plans to open a store in Ann Arbor in the next three years.

“This is the most gratifying part of being the executive director of the Chelsea Area Chamber, welcoming new small businesses to our town, especially a small business that’s expanding,” said Bob Pierce.

When asked what makes his business different from other computer stores, he said “the quick turn-around for service. It’s important to have ongoing customer service.”

“You can buy a computer anywhere, but the after-service is most important,” Marzec said.

The Computer Source leases a 600-square-foot space next to Twisters, an ice cream shop.

Thursday, the store held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and Dustin Krasny, a field representative for Congressman Tim Walberg, was on hand with a proclamation.

“Small business is the job creation of this economy and it’s a great day in Chelsea to see this open,” he said.

From refurbished laptops to new computers and parts, The Computer Source charges $55 per hour for in-store service and $75 per hour for on-site service.

“We provide service, install and support networking,” Thatai said, and provide “very, very quick turnaround.” Store hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. The company also provides after hour service by calling 734-433-1700.

On July 1, the company will launch a new website.

Congratulations Mr Thatai. I wish you the best in your second opening venture. We all know times are tough with our failing economy. But computers will still be in needing of a little TLC.
