Ann Arbor-based Con-way Freight recently completed its seventh annual “Collection for the Troops” campaign in which employees collected and donated thousands of pounds of goods and supplies for employees who are in the National Guard and Reserves and have been deployed overseas.

The collection campaign started Nov. 22 and ended Dec. 6. The donations are going to five active duty citizen soldiers currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, with enough for the soldiers to share the gifts with other members of their units.

Donations were collected from local employees as well as other Con-way personnel across the nation. Contributions included everything from shampoo and soap to bug spray, shoe insoles, food, snacks and drinks, as well as miscellaneous items such as reading materials and games.

Personal hand-written messages thanking the troops for their dedication and service accompanied the care packages which were mailed late last week.
