People & Achievements in the greater Ann Arbor area, including The University Musical Society and Nanocerox

The following is a list of achievements by businesses and individuals in the Ann Arbor area:

Jim Leija was recently named the new director of education and community engagement for The University Musical Society; the appointment is effective June 15. An alum of the University of Michigan, Leija has been with UMS since 2008. He currently serves as manager of new media and online initiatives (2010-11) and was previously public relations manager (2008-09).

Michael Kelly, formerly CEO and president of privately-held Allied PhotoChemical Inc., recently joined Ann Arbor-based Nanocerox as the company's new president and CEO. In related news, Nanocerox recently announced an expansion of their Manufacturing and Research and Development facilities, located in Ann Arbor. Nanocerox officials said the newly added Manufacturing and Research and Development operations will allow Nanocerox to optimize production capabilities into one location and expand its overall R&D capabilities. Nanocerox is a producer of high-purity ceramic nanopowders and optical ceramics.

DesignHub Inc., a creative services and marketing firm based in Saline, will provide the Ann Arbor-based Center for Automotive Research with a coordinated set of marketing materials for the 46th annual CAR Management Briefing Seminars, to be held Aug. 1-4 at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Traverse City.

Rick VandenBoom has been named director of automotive marketing at Coherix. Coherix, headquartered in Ann Arbor is a pioneer in the development of high-speed, high-definition 3D visualization systems to improve the quality and reliability of automotive and semiconductor manufacturing processes.

• NanoBio Corp. announced May 25 the appointment of Peter Ulrich, co-founder of TargeGen, to its board of directors. Ulrich most recently served as president and CEO of TargeGen, co-founding the company and leading it from inception through exit in a $560 million acquisition by sanofi-aventis. NanoBio is a privately-held biopharmaceutical company with headquarters and laboratory facilities located in Ann Arbor.

DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Ann Arbor has been inducted into Remodeling Magazines Big 50 class of 2011 in the category of Business Savvy. Additionally, in May, DreamMaker received Guild Quality's 2011 Guildmaster Award with Highest Distinction for customer service and customer experience.

• Executives at TVS Logistics Services in Chennai, India, is taking part in a comprehensive general management program conducted by the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business which began May 27. The Ross School of Business has offered an exclusive 10-day Global Program for Management Development to executives from India's top organizations and business groups since 1994, emphasizing core skills.

• On May 24, State Representative Douglas A. Geiss, D-Taylor, welcomed members of the University of Michigan's Solar Car Team (UMsolar) as they visited the state Capitol to display their solar car, Infinium. Infinium reaches speeds of more than 105 mph while using roughly the same amount of energy that it takes to power a hair dryer. UMsolar is widely recognized as the most successful solar car team in North America, and the 2010 race crew last year brought back Michigan’s third straight National Championship and sixth overall.
