The fifth annual Pittsfield Open House, called Passport-2-Pittsfield, took place on Sunday, April 21. Employees of Pittsfield Township volunteered their time to greet visitors and act as tour guides at each of the Township’s six facilities.

Passport-2-Pittsfield visitors received a palm-sized passport, complete with their photo to chart their afternoon’s free activities.

Activities at the six locations included build-a-box-city, kids’ choice election ballot, photos with Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the Crime Dog, “driving” large construction vehicles, playing Earth Day bingo, building a tree completely out of recycled water bottles, and entering to win raffle gifts from local businesses. Two AATA buses acted as shuttles for residents to park at any of the locations and use transit to tour all facilities.

This year’s festivities began with the official ribbon cutting for the township’s newly established Rain Garden in front of Township Hall on Michigan Avenue. The Rain Garden, which was completely funded through grants and private donations, will include a 10 foot tall glass mosaic sculpture, scheduled for completion this fall.
