Saline gas station won't get Burger King franchise
The owner of a BP gas station on West Michigan Avenue in Saline isn’t moving forward with plans to add a drive-through Burger King restaurant franchise, Saline's Patch news website reports.
The station is located at 777 W. Michigan Avenue east of Riveroaks Boulevard. The registered owner of the property is Petro Power Inc.
A preliminary site plan submitted by Saline Property LLC on Aug. 16 called to remove an existing car wash, relocated gas pumps to the west side of the building, add a Burger King to the east part of the building and build a 430-square-foot addition for two walk-in coolers.
However, at Monday’s Saline City Council meeting, Mayor Gretchen Driskell said Burger King wasn’t interested in putting a franchise at the location, and Saline Property LLC decided against taking the plans further, Patch reported.
Some council members expressed disappointment that the city had worked on the project for months when the Saline Property LLC owed the city $15,734 in taxes and $2,907 in water bills, according to the report.
Driskell said the tax situation had nothing to do with the decision to stop the process.

I live nearby, and think the community would probably prefer a completely new ownership of whatever business ends up there. That BP gas station is a rat hole.

Any explanation as to why the pumps have recently been removed in the last week or so? The station looks like it has closed up. Are they closed due to past due taxes and bills to the city?

There are too many fast food restaurants in Saline anyways including a Burger King just east of this proposed location.

Try 5 miles. Google maps is your friend. Definitely not convenient for city residents.

Platt can't be more than a mile or two to the east and the BK at this location hardly gets any traffic.

There's no other BK's in the city. The closest is at Michigan Ave. and Platt which I wouldn't call "just east".
