Retail roundup: Ann Arbor’s retail happenings this week
Lots going on in Ann Arbor this week. Store events, specials, sales, and celebrations. What's to celebrate? For one, Mother's Day is this weekend! We all know a special mom (or two ...or more!) who deserves to be celebrated. Ann Arbor businesses have plenty of great ideas for whatever she fancies. Also, today is Cinco de Mayo, the festival of Mexican Independence. And beyond that, there are local businesses that are growing and thriving! Here are the details:
Grow with Me: Its spring Time and 2-year-old children’s resale shop Grow With Me is a bloomin’. The store is doing so well that it is outgrowing its current location on Jackson Road, and will be relocating to the Westgate Plaza. Co-owner Marni Hochman hopes to have the larger and more accessible store open in the next few weeks.
Cinco de Mayo A festive night of Mexican-style celebration is sure to be found at Sabor Latino, eve, the restaurant, and other local restaurants. If you are looking for a do-good way to celebrate, check out the Cinco de Circa event at Pot & Box. This night of food, fun, and flowers is a benefit for Growing Hope, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping people improve their lives and community through gardening and access to healthy food. Tickets are $30 and a limited number are available (at Everyday Wines in Kerrytown).
Mother’s Day Whole Foods on Washtenaw Avenue has a couple of ideas for Mother’s Day. Today (May 5th) at 4 p.m. children are invited in to create an aromatherapy gift for moms. Then on Mother’s Day, you can bring Mom back for a complimentary made-to-order omelet during the Whole Foods Mother’s Day brunch. Other scrumptious goodies will be available for purchase.
Michaels Crafts and Tree Town Toys are the best bets for make-it-and-take-it Mother’s Day crafts this week. Both stores have multiple options for free or inexpensive homemade gifts from the little ones.
If you are still shopping for the perfect gift for the perfect mom, Ann Arbor’s Mainstreet Association invites you to come downtown and find it at a local shop. On Friday May 7th during the Moonlight Delight Event, many businesses will be staying open late and offering discounts and entertainment as well. Look for up to 75 percent off at Carol Roeda Studio, and then check out the Full Moon at 207 S. Main St. for a late snack or drink.
