Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will travel to Iowa on Wednesday to attend a reception to greet the presumptive next president of China, according to a media advisory distributed Tuesday afternoon.

Snyder will attend a reception and dinner for China Vice President Xi Jinping and other Chinese political leaders and executives, the governor's office said.

Xi, who met today with President Barack Obama in Washington, is expected to replace China President Hu Jintao next year, according to numerous national media reports.

The reception and dinner in Des Moines "in the Capitol rotunda will include about 175 Chinese officials, 150 Iowa lawmakers, Iowa Supreme Court and appellate court justices, university and college presidents, business and cultural leaders," the Des Moines Register reported.

Snyder visited China in 2011, meeting with political officials and business leaders.

All that glitters is not Gold : I do hope that the Governor of State of Michigan will get an opportunity to take a good look at the person with whom he is planning to dine. What is the process or mechanism that has elevated this person to the level of the future President of China? If that process and mechanism is fair and just, why do Americans are not able to name their future President? If that process and mechanism is not fair and just, why do you want to share a meal with a person who is seeking to be a future President without involving the people he wants to represent?

Will Gov Snyder be playing Rep Hoektras Super Bowl ad for the next communist Chairman of China? I certainly do not support Chinas record on labor rights (almost none), their political prisons, their horrible environmental record, their inability to protect copy rights and patents, their state owned massive companies, their authoritarian/communist government, but...I do give kudos to Gov Snyder for not stereotyping our main supplier of crap.

Are we, the Michigan taxpayers, funding this trip? Maybe getting contractors for his new bridge? Peoples Republic of Michigan. Thanks Slick for selling US to China.

Surely hope he is not going to agree to more Chinese imports. Until the trade becomes fair between the two countries, I say no more imports.

How soon is Slick Rick done in MIchigan? This state needs someone leading it whose first priority is creating jobs in Michigan. Somehow I don't think the next President of China will be creating jobs in this state. Snyder is only interested in feathering the nest of his own companies in China.

Governor Snyder must court the new President of his country or at least the home of a large part of his wealth. His company Neophotonics is in China and his company Discera is doing business in China. It is hard to manage this conflict of interest since he cannot put his companies in a blind trust.
