Shoppers and visitors swarmed shops and restaurants in downtown Ann Arbor during the annual Midnight Madness event Friday night. Santa and carolers roamed the streets, Kerrytown featured live music and retailers offered special deals.

“It’s probably the biggest night downtown as far as sales go and sidewalks being packed,” said Maura Thomson, executive director of the Main Street Area Association, earlier this week.

My family and I had a great time in Kerrytown and shopping on Main Street. Monahan's seafood minestrone was a delicious way to warm up.

How cool to see a St Nicholas instead of the 20th-century commercialized Santa Claus. Let's not forget that this is a christian church holiday with deep historical and pagan roots.

Ummm... that place just to the east of Ann Arbor. You know. Ypsilanti. They also had a downtown merchants event on the 1st Friday of December. But hardly a mention in AnnArbor.com.

It's a sure bet that St. Nicholas wasn't wishing people "Happy holidays!"

Gotta say even though I very seldom shop downtown (I seldom shop anywhere) we did have the occasion to drive down Main St at about 8:30 Fri night. And it was great to see all the goings on.

Ann Arbor will never be the same since the unjust dismissal of The King, Rich Rodriguez. The last few years when Theo was downtown for Midnight Madness, most folks were holly and jolly. A subtle sense of sadness seemed to prevail last night...

It was WONDERFUL to see so many people out last night. I even joined the carolers last night on State Street, before seeing everything on Main St. Ann Arbor resident, Angela Todd
