2 Ann Arbor employers hold job fairs to fill 50 regional openings

By Ben Freed

As unemployment continues to shrink in Washtenaw County, two local businesses are looking to hire 50 new employees in the coming weeks.

Ann Arbor-based information company ProQuest has 20 openings to fill, and Suburban Collection, a regional conglomerate of auto dealers based in Troy, has 30 career opportunities available, according to a press release.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Washtenaw County’s unemployment rate, the lowest in the state, fell to five percent in April. That's the lowest level since March 2008, and down from a high of 9.8% in July of 2009.

ProQuest will be holding a job fair June 12 at 5:30 p.m. The company is looking to hire software developers, Java architects, and Oracle developers. The fair will be held at the company’s headquarters at 789 E. Eisenhower.

AnnArbor.com reported Tuesday that Suburban Collection will acquire Chrysler Jeep of Ann Arbor. They are also expanding their workforce at locations in Ann Arbor, Farmington Hills, Ferndale, Novi, Sterling Heights, and Troy.

The company will be holding open houses on June 12 and 13 to fill positions, including both experienced and entry-level sales representatives, technicians, accounts payable office staff, and insurance managers.

The June 12 fair will be at Suburban Mazda of Farmington Hills, 37911 Grand River Ave., and the June 13 open house will be at Suburban Infinity of Troy, 1816 Maplelawn Dr. Both events start at 6 p.m.
