TechCrunch reporters coming to Ann Arbor due to 'sheer number' of requests

By Ben Freed

TechCruch, an online technology news source, is holding meet ups across the northern Midwest in early November. According to the site, more than 3,000 people have RSVP’d for the events in Detroit, Toronto, and Chicago.

And there’s one more city that will be getting some love from the tech gurus: Ann Arbor.

The response was so great that the reporters traveling to the cities decided to use their mornings to hold “office hours” in local coffee shops in those three cities and one more. Due to “sheer number” of requests, before the Detroit meet up on Nov.7, three of the five staff members, Jordan Crook, Matt Burns, and East Coast editor John Biggs will be meeting with entrepreneurs and other tech-minded people at the Starbucks on the corner of East Liberty and South State Streets in downtown Ann Arbor.

Bloggers for the Atlantic also made their way to Ann Arbor while on their midwestern tour in September.

Unfortunately for anyone just finding out about this, the “open hours” are one-on-one meetings that have to be reserved ahead of time and the available slots filled within four hours of the announcement posted at noon Tuesday.

As of Tuesday night there were still spots open for the meet up at the Hockeytown Cafe in Detroit, according to the site.
