By Ben Freed

USA Today’s personal-tech columnist Edward Baig annually takes on the daunting task of making predictions about what trends will emerge in the world of technology. In 2013, he sees new hardware developments playing a major role in the marketplace.

Baig said the next version of the Amazon Kindle could make phone calls.

On the software side, Baig will be watching whether major changes pay off for Microsoft as Windows 8 tries to compete other app-based operating systems.
