The Furby, a popular 1990s owl-like robotic toy that “learns” English over time, is making a major comeback.
Grand Rapids-based Meijer reports the 2012 version of the toy — which has new technological advances such as LED eyes and syncing capabilities with an iPhone app — is “flying off shelves” this holiday season.

According to the National Retail Federation, consumers are expected to spend $586.1 billion on gifts and other holiday items this year, compared to the $563 billion spent in 2011.
“With Christmas just around the corner, Meijer is seeing those predictions come to life,” according to a news release from the supermarket chain.
