Top 5: Things we’d like to see Bill Martin do after he retires as the University of Michigan athletic director

By AnnArbor.com Staff

1. Plan a landmark development for the Brown Block. We know you won’t build it if it doesn’t make sense. But we’d like to see your vision for what could transform downtown Ann Arbor.

2. Tell us what’s right and wrong in Ann Arbor. We could use your leadership voice on local issues after your experience at the University of Michigan.

3. Ditto Michigan. Business leaders are trying to define the state’s future. You can give the movement more traction.

4. Bring the Olympics to Chicago. Sure, you’re not running the U.S. Olympic committee anymore, but we’re sure you still have some influence. Chicago is close enough to Ann Arbor for some of us to attend -and reap a little spinoff benefit.

5. Buy a luxury box at Michigan Stadium. It’ll set a great corporate example.

Why wait for Mr. Martin to do any of this?. He's been on the hot seat for years and is ready for a break.. However, study and use his practices as your reference. Apply them to any of the situations above. Then, have the tenacity and endurance to see them through.. Otherwise, why be passive in an environment that needs growth or change?
