Now open: Wolverine State Brewing Co opens tap room on Ann Arbor's west side

By Wendy Ochoa

After passing a final city building inspection on Thursday, Wolverine State Brewing Co. is finally ready to open the doors of its tap room at 2019 W. Stadium. The partners were hoping for a Halloween opening, but because of a scheduling problem were delayed.

The tap room will officially open today at noon to the public.

“I’m thrilled and ready to get the doors open and the beers pouring,” said partner E.T. Crowe.

The tap room will be open until midnight Friday and will open again at 8 a.m. Saturday.

“We have an earlier start for our first tailgate party,” Crowe said. Wolverine’s web site shows drink specials will be offered on “the brewer’s whim” for the University of Michigan v. Illinois game, which kicks off at noon.

Wolverine has plans for what it calls a “Bigger Than Life Grand Opening” on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 7 p.m. with drink specials and a DJ.

Regular hours for the tap room are Monday - Thursday, 3 .m.m to 11 p.m., Friday - Saturday, noon to midnight, and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. For more information, check out the brewery website.

Checked it out last night - great time, great place, great beer! Atticus - I had a really good brown ale there, one of the best I've ever had. The place is tucked in behind Big George's with plenty of parking and actually a pretty quiet spot. It was very impressive local tap room!

Went in for a quick IPA...Very good...they were selling beer as fast as they could pour it! A good opening I'd say!!!

Well, I think they'll be a welcome addition to the Stadium stretch, and I hope they do well. Things haven't been the same on this side of town since they replaced the late Stadium Tavern with a bank. Like a dear friend once mused, "You could always cash your check at the Tavern, but you can't buy a beer at the bank."

I'm a little disappointed in the lack of a decent sounding ale. I'm partial to a nut brown ale, but it looks like both ales they offer are on the extreme ends, either too heavy, or too light.

is this the former Big Georges space, next to the new Big Georges and next to Great Lakes Cycling? If so,is this in the front of the space where Big Georges had their retail operation or in the back where the brewery had originally leased for the brewing operation? If your going to give them free advertising disguised as a news article, you should help them out by making your readers crystal clear where the business in question is located.

Where was this place when I lived in the west side?!!! Back in those days I always wondered why nobody had a decent bar on that side of town as I drove down Stadium towards Fraiser's or Cubs.

For Linda Peck, I think that you will see that brewpubs attract a different type of customer than "taverns". This is not your shot and a beer crowd. Lovers of craft beer tend to be a civilized bunch.

I had the Wolverine and the Big House at the Fall Beer Fest. Both represented their styles well. The IPA sounds interesting.

I am not happy. I like our quiet west side neighborhood. Taverns bring drunk drivers and lots of noise and traffic late at night.
