Many people are asking how many people are currently being housed the the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) program which was created to offer relief to those who were turned to the streets by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) decision to close the Wagner Road camp. The answer is approximately 19, with several more who will hopefully be housed soon, pending inspection of their units.

The slow moving process to find new residences for former Camp Take Notice residents is not unexpected, but it does add fuel to a movement trying to restart the camp near Ann Arbor.

Out of the 40 people who were given one-year rent subsidies when they were evicted in June from the homeless camp on state land in Scio Township, more than half have yet to find a new residence. However, the exact number of former campers who have been housed varies based on who is speaking.

Thursday update: Enforcement plan uncertain as eviction deadline nears at Camp Take Notice

The state is putting up an 8-foot-tall, chain-link fence to block a homeless encampment from returning to a nearly 9-acre site on a state highway median west of Ann Arbor.

It's just one of the precautionary measures being taken as the state shuts down Camp Take Notice, said Mark Sweeney, a regional manager for the Michigan Department of Transportation.

With the scheduled shutdown of Camp Take Notice only two days away, some residents of the homeless encampment are in line to move into subsidized housing in the very near future.

Delonis Center adding accommodations for displaced Camp Take Notice residents

Downtown Ann Arbor's homeless shelter is preparing for the scheduled June 22 shutdown of Camp Take Notice by temporarily adding beds.

The Delonis Center, 312 W. Huron St., will open its doors to up to 50 additional people in order to accommodate displaced campers transitioning from the outdoor tent city west of Ann Arbor to subsidized housing.

The shelter offers 75 beds on a permanent basis, but will expand to its winter season capacity and staffing levels to accommodate an expected influx following the shutdown of the camp, which according to organizers is currently home to 66 people.
