Glenn Robinson III rose from relative anonymity to blue chip recruit during his high school basketball career.

And now, that career is officially over.

The Michigan basketball commit, who joins the Wolverines later this year, played two games over the weekend for the Indiana All-Stars. They faced the Kentucky All-Stars, beating them in both games.

Glenn Robinson III and Zak Irvin have always been able to admire each other from afar throughout their high school careers.

The duo will get a closer look at each other this week in Indiana, but still from opposite sidelines.

Not to worry, though, because the next time Robinson and Irvin are in the same gym playing competitive basketball will likely be in Ann Arbor, and they'll be wearing Michigan basketball uniforms.

"That's going to be pretty fun," Robinson told AnnArbor.com. "To get to play against a guy one more time that I'll be playing with for the next couple years will be cool.

"I'll have to talk to him a little bit on the court, just to mess with him."

Glenn Robinson III could have been that guy.

With one of his best friends, Mitch McGary, going through a highly-publicized and national recruitment process, Robinson could have been selfish.

Already committed to the Michigan basketball program, it would have been easy for Robinson to bombard his childhood pal with text messages, phone calls and emails.

It might have gone a long way, and would certainly have been beneficial for Robinson to be vocal on the subject.

But he wasn't. His friend was going through enough as it was, and some things are more important than basketball.

"I wasn't recruiting him," Robinson said. "We've got too much respect for each other. I didn't need to say anything to him.

"It wasn't about me."

Some rankings were shuffled and one addition will still be made, but in the end, experts still see the Michigan basketball team's 2012 recruiting class as one of the best in the country.

Rivals.com updated its top 150 players list for 2012 on Wednesday, moving future Wolverine Glenn Robinson III to the No. 11 overall player in the group and giving him a five-star ranking in the process.

Presently, Rivals ranks Michigan's 2012 haul as the fifth-best class in America.

The tour of spring break all-star games continues for Michigan basketball signees Mitch McGary and Glenn Robinson III.

McGary, a 6-foot-10-inch, 260-pound forward from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., is currently in Portland, Ore. and will take part in Saturday's 2012 Nike Hoop Summit. The event will air live at 10 p.m. on Fox Sports Network.

Robinson, meanwhile, will take part in the second BallIsLife All-American Game at 9:30 p.m. in Fullerton, Calif.

And now, he's officially a five-star prospect.

Robinson, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Lake Central High School in Saint John, Ind., was re-ranked to No. 18 overall Friday in ESPN.com's recruiting rankings for the 2012 class, moving up eight spots and becoming Michigan's highest-rated signee for next season in the process.

Glenn Robinson III was angry, and someone had to pay.

Hours before he and his Lake Central High School teammates tipped off against Valparaiso High School on Feb. 9, the final rosters for the 2012 McDonald's All-American game were released.

Robinson's name wasn't on the sheet.

And someone was going to answer for it.

"I remember that day," says Robinson, a 2012 Michigan basketball signee. "I was pretty upset about that.

"That would have meant a lot to me."

The Michigan basketball roster for next season may still be in flux, but one thing appears clear.

Glenn Robinson III will have an impact, one way or another.

The 6-foot-6 small forward signee had 16 points and four rebounds and grabbed Player of the Game honors as his North squad fell 86-85 to the South team in the ESPNHS All-American Championship high school all-star game Sunday in New Orleans.

The games will be played at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans on Sunday. McGary and the North team take on the South squad at 3 p.m., followed by the East vs. West game at 4:30 p.m.

Both games will be carried live on ESPN3.com and rebroadcast in prime time on ESPNU at 9 p.m. Sunday.

McGary, a 6-foot-10, 260-pound five-star power forward, scored 12 points to help Brewster Academy grab an 87-76 victory against Hargrave Military Academy in the title game of the National Prep Championship tournament in New Haven, Conn.

Five-star power forward Mitch McGary and four-star wing Glenn Robinson III were both announced Thursday as participants in the 2012 All-American Championships, a high school all-star event in New Orleans on April 1.

The majority of the Michigan basketball program's recruiting buzz surrounding the 2012 class has focused on power forward Mitch McGary.

And, rightfully so, as McGary is rated as a five-star prospect by two scouting services.

But he may soon have company.

On Sunday, Rivals.com listed 2012 Michigan signee Glenn Robinson III as the No. 1 player on a list of recruits most likely "to move up the Rivals150."

The Michigan basketball program's top recruit for 2012 took a dip in the national rankings recently, but the class as a whole maintains a strong standing.

Despite five-star power forward Mitch McGary's fall out of the top five to No. 21 overall, Scout.com rated John Beilein's three-man as the seventh-best class in the country Tuesday in its updated 2012 class rankings.

Michigan's 2012 group is three spots higher than Michigan State's four-man class.

The Michigan basketball program made national waves in November by signing five-star big man Mitch McGary to its 2012 class.

Earlier this month, McGary made more waves in recruiting circles, and not in an overly positive manner, either.

McGary, once pegged as the No. 2 overall prospect in the country by Scout.com and ESPN.com, has fallen considerably in the national rankings.

ESPN dropped McGary to No. 21 earlier this month, and Tuesday, Scout followed suit by moving him down to No. 20.

"I think we may have gotten a little aggressive after the summer (with McGary), he had a terrific summer, but there are concerns," Scout.com's national basketball recruiting analyst Evan Daniels told AnnArbor.com. "His lack of ability to score consistently is one, and maybe we over-valued him a little over the summer.

"That said, he's still a terrific player, and he's still a guy who will have a pretty big impact at Michigan and should be able to produce right away. ... Michigan is still getting a terrific player."

It was a rough day for the recruiting stock of 2012 Michigan basketball signee Mitch McGary.

The 6-foot-10, 260-pound power forward from Brewster Academy fell from No. 2 to No. 21 overall in ESPN.com's updated recruiting rankings for next season.

McGary, who chose Michigan over Duke and Florida in November, now is rated as a four-star prospect by ESPN and the sixth-best power forward.

At the time of his signing, he was a five-star, and rated as the No. 1 overall power forward.

At least one college basketball analyst expects big things from the Michigan basketball program next season.

Even if John Beilein thinks he's crazy.

Big Ten Network analyst Tim Doyle joined Beilein on his weekly radio show Monday night to preview the 13th-ranked Wolverines' home game against Northwestern on Wednesday.

While on the show, broadcast by 1270 AM WXYT in Detroit and 1050 WTKA in Ann Arbor, Doyle paid Beilein's fledgling program a rather lofty compliment.

"A note to you guys, I got a chance to see (2012 signee) Glenn Robinson III play in Milwaukee this past weekend, and holy cow is that kid good," Doyle said on the program. "And I've got a prediction next year: I think Michigan is a Final Four team next year."

Beilein's response?

"What happy hour are you at right now?" he said in jest.

Persistence pays off: John Beilein offers first comments on Mitch McGary, Glenn Robinson III

When Michigan basketball coach John Beilein first saw Mitch McGary play, things were quite a bit different than they are now.

During the 2007-08 season when Beilein was in Chesterton, Ind. recruiting current Wolverine senior captain Zack Novak, he couldn't help but notice the tall kid who wasn't seeing much game action.

"He did not play a great deal when Zack was a senior, and he was a freshman on that team," Beilein said of McGary, a former prep teammate of Novak's at Chesterton High School. "(But) we kept (him) in the back of our mind. ... and just kept in contact."

McGary doesn't sit the bench anymore.

And Beilein's persistence paid off.

They say recruiting is never over until it's over.

With Brewster Academy power forward Mitch McGary, it's officially over.

McGary announced via Twitter this morning that he's signed his letter of intent to play basketball for coach John Beilein and the Michigan basketball program next season.

"Just signed my LOI!! #GoBlue," McGary tweeted at around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Michigan basketball 2012 commits continue to rise in recruit rankings

The Michigan basketball team's 2012 commits, Glenn Robinson III and Nik Stauskas, remain on the rise in the eyes of national recruiting analysts.

Rivals.com updated its Top 150 players for the class of 2012 this week, moving Robinson up to No. 35 and Stauskas up to No. 80 overall.

ESPN.com updated its 2012 college basketball recruiting class rankings Wednesday, and Michigan's current two-man crop was well-received at No. 14 overall.

Currently, Michigan basketball coach John Beilein has pledges from two players -- both on ESPNU's Top 100 for 2012.
