Student guilty of swinging crutch in Huron-Pioneer brawl gets 4 months probation

The Pioneer High School student who pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge from the Pioneer-Huron High School football brawl received four months probation Tuesday.

Two students from the Ann Arbor Public Schools recently were named among an elite group of high school seniors.

Both the Huron and Skyline girls water polo teams had no trouble advancing to the regional round of the Michigan Water Polo Association state tournament on Friday.

With both teams receiving byes in the first round of the 10-team District 3 and 6 tournament, they only needed one win apiece to extend their respective seasons.

The Huron High School girls may have bested Saline High School at last year’s Division 1 girls track and field state meet, finishing in second while the Hornets tied for fourth.

Three Ann Arbor high school students recently were awarded corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships.

Attorney: Family likely to appeal court's 6-month probation sentence for teen charged in brawl

One of the Pioneer students accused of being involved in the Huron-Pioneer football brawl received six months of probation for his involvement. The case will be wiped from his record if he complies with probation requirements.

The 17-year-old student who was found responsible for an assault during the brawl that broke out after a Pioneer-Huron football game last fall was sentenced Tuesday to six months probation and a $50 fine.

Under a sentencing agreement, the incident will be expunged from the boy's record if he complies with the requirements of probation, which would involve community service. His attorney said the student will likely appeal the sentence.
