When Al Borges was hired as the Michigan football team's offensive coordinator last year, he touted the return of a pro-style offense in Ann Arbor -- and with it, the re-emergence of the tight end.

Only, a year later, the Wolverines are devoid of experience at the position after the graduation of starters Kevin Koger and Steve Watson.

First-year Huron High School football coach Cory Gildersleeve has experienced first days before. Five of them as coach at Dundee and two at both Hartland and Dearborn Heights Crestwood. But when 3:30 p.m. rolled around Monday afternoon, he was just as nervous as ever.

“Even when you’ve been doing it a lot of years, that first day, you still get butterflies in your belly, an adrenaline rush and excitement to get football going,” Gildersleeve said shortly after separating his team into positions for the first two-a-day practice of the season.

Jeremy Gold isn't the only Pioneer High School coach excited about the family of Ricardo Miller moving from Orlando and into the school's district.

Gold is thrilled to have a 6-foot-2, Big Ten-caliber receiver drop into his football program. But Rex Stanczak is also excited about Chazz Miller, a sophomore-to-be basketball player who stands at 6-foot-6 with growing to do (he wears size 18 shoes).
