The Huron Valley Swim Club put the final touches on another first place finish at the 52nd Annual Washtenaw Interclub Conference championships on Thursday.

Records fell on Wednesday, as the most senior competitors at the 52nd annual Washtenaw Interclub Swim Conference championships took to the one-meter diving board at Huron Valley Country Club.

Team scores were tallied after Day 2 of the Washtenaw Interclub Swim Conference championships and the always strong Huron Valley Swim Club is, like always, sitting safely atop the leaderboard.

With two days of swimming and diving in the books, Huron Valley has tallied 2,417 points, nearly as much the next closest teams -- Travis Pointe Country Club (1,303.50) and Ann Arbor Country Club (1,189) -- combined.

The 52nd annual Washtenaw Interclub Swim Conference championships kicked off on Monday, and some familiar names from the high school season took home a fair share of medals when swimmers age 13-and-up competed at Skyline High School.

The Saline High School natatorium was a fitting final stop for this week’s Washtenaw Interclub Swim Conference championships and the traveling junket of SUVs, shammies, swimcaps, Nintendo DSs and Gatorade bottles that accompanied it.

After all, it is the Hornets -- the winner of four state swimming championships in the last three years -- that have benefited the most from the area farm system that is WISC, which wrapped up Thursday with Huron Valley Swim Club winning its 37th consecutive team title.

Growth of Washtenaw Interclub Swimming Championships (WISC) spans across generations

John Dudley stood poolside before the first race of the 50th annual Washtenaw Interclub Swimming Championships began Monday.

His long-time friend and colleague, Jim Hume, presented him with a red-and-white Adirondack chair and footrest with “John Dudley” written on the back.

It was a token of appreciation for 31 years of service to WISC for Dudley, 81, including 20 years as president from 1980 to 2000.

The chair sat empty all day at Willow Run High School, and that’s how it will stay. If Dudley’s at a swim meet, the last pace you’ll find him is relaxing with his feet up.

Day one of the Washtenaw Interclub Swim Championships saw high school-aged swimmers compete, with perennial powerhouse Huron Valley Swim Club atop the standings. No surprise there, but the Milan Swim Club’s presence in second place may be an indication that the Milan High School teams could be a force to reckoned with in the fall and winter.

On Tuesday, 9- and 10-year-olds competed at Willow Run High School and traditional WISC players Travis Pointe and Dexter Community Aquatic Club caught up. (Day 2 WISC Results | Day 1 WISC Results)

Adam Whitener walked right past Jake Engelmeier in the halls of Willow Run High School during day one of the Washtenaw Interclub Swim Championships on Monday.

Heading outside to get some food between races, Whitener, the Saline High School sophomore-to-be who took the high school swim scene by storm during the Hornets’ 2009-10 state championship run, completely ignored his former teammate.

Multi-generational Huron Valley Swim Club wins 35th straight WISC title

Twelve-year-old Matt Orringer on Thursday earned a pair of first-place finishes, and twice came in second, helping the Huron Valley Swim Club win its 35th straight Washtenaw Interclub Swim Conference championship.
