Posted: Feb 11, 2013 at 12:55 PM [Feb 11, 2013]

On February 24th 2013, 2 PM at the Dexter District Library, 3255 Alpine, Dexter, MI 48130, the Dexter  Area Historical Society and Museum is planning a unique program as we recreate the funeral of our Village Founder, Samuel William Dexter.  Judge Dexter died February 6th,  1863 leaving a wife and 8 children to mourn his passing.  Using the “You Are There” radio and  television format, we will introduce the members of Judge Dexter’s family as  they arrive for the funeral.  Then adapting  the 1860 Methodist Episcopal Church Order  of the Burial of the Dead, we will present the Historical funeral.

We hope the program will be both informative and educational as we learn about life and death in Dexter in 1863.  The presentation is free and there will be  refreshments served after the program.    Everyone is welcome.

James B. Parker will be present to  sign his bookVoices of the Past: Gordon  Hall” which will be on sale ($25) with proceeds going to the Gordon Hall  Fund.
