Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Training Sessions for Caregivers and Professionals on Sept. 19

Arbor Hospice and Evangelical Homes of Michigan will host Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, as she presents two interactive Alzheimer’s disease and dementia training sessions for professionals and family caregivers. The two presentations will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Kensington Court at 610 Hilton Blvd., Ann Arbor, MI, 48108.

Registration is required for the free training sessions:

 

  • 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Learning the Difference Between Letting Go and Giving Up is designed to help caregivers develop the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively help someone living with dementia. Emphasis will be on providing attendees with strategies for responding to common symptoms and behaviors of people with dementia. The session will also focus on how to learn to recognize and accept changes that are part of the disease’s progression.

 

  • 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.– Nearing the Journey’s End—providing care that makes sense for the person with dementia will provide knowledge and skills for caregivers to enhance quality of life, reduce stress and improve communication skills in the later stages of dementia. This is a highly interactive workshop that will provide new techniques for interacting and communicating with people with dementia.

 

This activity has been submitted to Illinois Nurses Association Approver Unit for approval to award contact hours. Illinois Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This course is approved by the Michigan Social Work Continuing Collaborative. There is a $10.00 fee for each workshop for those who want social work or nursing continuing education credit.
