Students (grades 9 -11) from all public and independent Ann Arbor Area High Schools are encouraged to apply for membership to the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation Youth Council.

DEADLINE TO APPLY IS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2012 BY 4:00 PM.

The Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation Youth Council (YC) brings together a diverse group of 25 students from public and private high schools in Ann Arbor – and offers a unique opportunity for young people to make a meaningful difference through philanthropy and community service.

Youth Council recognizes that young people are a valuable community resource, and when given the opportunity, provide an important voice and vehicle for strengthening our community.

Youth Council members gain a deep understanding of our community's needs and issues related to youth, the local nonprofit sector, and how philanthropy and volunteering can make a meaningful difference in strengthening our community.

YC members learn how to evaluate and award grants, provide hands-on support for community projects, develop leadership skills, and give voice and perspective to issues that concern young people.

Each year, Youth Council awards $70,000 in grants to support local youth programs and services throughout Washtenaw County. Since 1989, more than 200 Ann Arbor high school students have participated in AAACF’s Youth Council – awarding more than $1.2 million in grants that have made a meaningful difference in thousands of young people’s lives.

Applications are due Friday, September 14, 2012
