Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living receives Quality of Life Grant from The Christopher and Dana Reeves Foundation

The Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living recently received a grant in the amount of $6,500 from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. This Quality of Life Grant is awarded twice a year to programs or projects that improve the daily lives of people with paralysis.

 

The Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living will use the grant money to help pay for the cost of The Great Lakes Independence Ride (IRIDE), an annual inclusive cycling event in which people with and without disabilities ride 440 miles across the state in four days. The IRIDE is also a fundraiser for the Ann Arbor CIL’s sports and recreation program which provides a variety of inclusive recreation activities for children, youth and adults with disabilities and their families.

 

According to Glen Ashlock, Director of the Sports and Recreation program, “This grant will pay for much of our staff costs related to the event, so more of the money earned from IRIDE will go back into the program than ever before. We are so grateful to the Dana and Christopher Reeve foundation for giving us the opportunity to continue to provide recreational opportunities for people with paralysis and other disabilities.”

 

The Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living was established in 1976. We are dedicated to helping children, youth, adults and seniors with disabilities achieve success at home, at work, at school and in their community

Great thanks go to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation for this generous grant. The Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by funding innovative research, and improving the quality of life for people living with paralysis through grants, information and advocacy.
