Ann Arbor, October 8, 2012 – The Ann Arbor Y will host a Spin-a-thon to raise funds for the LiveSTRONG at the YMCA program on Sunday, November 11 at the Y building (400 West Washington Street, Ann Arbor). The event is open to the public and will increase awareness  and raise fundsto support the program.  The Spin-a-thon is open to anyone twelve years of age and older and every rider will receive an event t-shirt.  Program alumni will speak each hour about their experiences with the program. Cyclists may participate as an individual or as part of a team effort.  Each rider has a suggested fundraising goal of $100 for each hour he or she rides, and each team of up to five people has a suggested fundraising goal of $500.  All team members can ride during the same hour if they wish.  Those who choose not to cycle, but would still like to be involved are welcome to volunteer their time.  For details, contact Lisa Hesse at 734.661.8044 or lhesse@annarborymca.org.

The LiveSTRONG at the YMCA program is a free 12-week fitness program that helps cancer survivors return to wellness after their treatment.  Program participants do not need to be YMCA members.  Research shows that regular exercise greatly improves cancer survivors’ quality of life by increasing muscle strength and physical endurance, and by improving energy levels and self-esteem.
