Auditions: The Penny Seats seek performers for SHE LOVES ME

Posted: May 1, 2012 at 4:35 PM [May 1, 2012]

Last summer, the Penny Seats made their debut in Ann Arbor's West Park Band Shell with the hilarious Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet). Soon, they will return to the outdoor locale with the classic musical She Loves Me, a tale of workplace rivalry, mistaken identity, holiday shopping, and, of course, romance.

The group is searching for singers, dancers, and actors for the 15-person cast, and is also welcoming technicians and designers interested in becoming part of a quick-growing company.

Auditions will be held Monday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 9 from 6:00pm-9:00pm at the Northside Community Church, 929 Barton Drive, Ann Arbor; callbacks will follow on Sunday, May 13. Interested performers should prepare two contrasting audition songs, and are advised to arrive dressed to move. Musical accompaniment will be provided. Roles available include Kodaly, the shop lothario; the love-weary shopgirl Ritter; wise family man Sipos; and storeowner Mr. Maraczek, who somehow must learn to deal with his aggravating, exasperating workforce.

Please contact director Jacqui Robbins at jacqui_robbins@yahoo.com to schedule an audition.

Rehearsals will begin Sunday, June 3, and will typically take place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 7:00pm-10:00pm, and Sunday afternoons from 2:00pm-5:00pm, though not every actor will be needed for every rehearsal. The show will run July 26-28, August 2-4, and August 9-11, with all performances starting 7:00pm. Auditioners should bring a list of potential schedule conflicts, if possible.

For another great chance to meet the Penny Seats, the company will host an open house event at the Arbor Brewing Company (l14 E. Washington Street, Ann Arbor) on Saturday, May 12. Designers, performers, technicians, fans, friends – anyone interested in getting involved with the Penny Seats or simply getting to know the company over a drink or two are invited! The event will begin at 7:00pm.

ABOUT THE PENNY SEATS: Founded in 2010, we’re performers and players, minimalists and penny-pinchers. We think theatre should be fun and stirring, not stuffy or repetitive. We believe going to a show should not break the bank. And we find Michigan summer evenings beautiful. Thus, we produce dramas and comedies, musicals and original adaptations, classics and works by up-and-coming playwrights. We also provide cabaret shows, acting classes, and wacky improv evenings. And you can see any of our shows for the same price as a movie ticket.
