Many of you have participated in supporting Bold for the Cure, a not-for-profit that originated right here in our department to create greater public understanding of the complications of breast cancer treatment while supporting breast cancer patients and their families through local programs and research. Our
funding model allows us to hold back 25% of the net earnings from each local
event to build an endowment from which to fund research fellows, while allocating the remaining 75% to local and regional not-for-profits that offer services and support for breast health and breast cancer patients. Last week, Bold for the Cure donated $13, 347.47 to the Mid-Michigan affiliated of Susan G.
Komen For the Cure. Komen was selected after an application process that
included a commitment to using all of our funds to support breast health and
breast cancer programs in Washtenaw County. THANK YOU to all who contributed to the remarkable success of this program, one that connects pathology in a very unique way to the patients affected by the diagnoses that we make on a daily basis. As immediate Past President of Bold for the Cure, I am extremely proud of the many ways in which members of not only AP but our entire Department and health care system have contributed to this program. May seem trite, but can think of no better example of what it means to realize the rewards from working together to achieve excellence in all that we do, including daily acts of kindness and caring. Bold for the Cure is merely an extension of the Michigan Difference at work every day, in this case for a couple of hours on a very special Sunday in a hair salon in downtown Ann Arbor.
