The Fourth of July Parade on Wednesday July 4, 2012 will be both a celebration of our nation’s independence and an opportunity for the Ann Arbor community to meet the University of Michigan’s new women’s basketball coach Kim Barnes Arico.

Coach Barnes Arico joins the Wolverines as the ninth head coach of the women’s basketball program.  She has spent the past 10 seasons leading the St. John’s women’s basketball program where she was the winningest head coach in their history.  In 2012 she was also awarded the Big East Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the USWBA National Coach of the Year.

Coach Barnes Arico and her daughter Emma will lead the Ann Arbor Fourth of July Parade as it begins at 10am from the corner of S. State and E. William.  In its 22nd year, the parade, hosted by the Ann Arbor Jaycees, will travel through the streets of downtown Ann Arbor. The parade will feature floats, musical groups, walking groups, and many others celebrating this year’s theme - “We the People.”

This year’s parade also offers an opportunity for Ann Arbor children to be a major part of the festivities. Children aged 12 and younger are invited to take part in the Bike Decorating Contest at 9:30am and then ride their bikes in the parade.
