BULLYING and CYBERBULLYING: Beneath the Radar No More - Monday, October 22, 2012, 7-9 PM at Washtenaw Intermediate School District, 1819 Wagner Road, Ann Arbor, MI. Please join us for an evening with Peter C. Raffalli, MD, FAAP Attending Physician, Child Neurology Children's Hospital Boston, Instructor, Neurology Harvard Medical School, Director, Bullying and Cyberbullying and Advocacy Collaborative (BACPAC) a hospital-based community effort to combat bullying. FREE!
Dr. Rafalli will tell us why bullying is abuse and a public health issue. He will discuss how to distinguish bullying situations from other forms of child/adolescent peer conflict and to recognize the signs that a child may be a victim of bullying. He will also discuss how to investigate and intervene appropriately and explore the common “mistakes” that are made in handling bullying situations. Participants will also be able to proactively identify children at risk for bullying before it happens, enabling heightened vigilance, prevention, and early detection of bullying. Not only will the harm to victims, including those with special needs, be discussed, but also the potential risks to the bullies themselves.
This presentation is of interest to anyone who has a connection to children and young people, including parents, school staff, medical staff, youth workers and those interested in how as a community we can work together to prevent bullying. Although a free event we request that you please register, contact Eileen: eileen@washtenawchildren.org or (734)434-4215. This presentation is presented in partnership with the University of Michigan Health System Child Protection Team and The Washtenaw County Cyber Citizenship Coalition (WC4.)
