Help Children in Need! Volunteer for Sunny Days Program

Local community members have the opportunity to open their hearts and support children in need.  SOS Community Services is recruiting volunteers for Sunny Days—an eight week summer activities program for at-risk and homeless youth, ages six to12, in Washtenaw County.

During this eight week program, children participate in age-appropriate, interactive, and educational activities such as a book club, swimming, playing sports, and field trips to various museums in Ann Arbor and Detroit. Each child receives free round-trip transportation from their shelter or transitional homes to the program. Also, they get a nutritious breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack.

Don’t miss a chance to help assist children in developing social skills and engage kids in activities that promote positive self-esteem and academic achievement.

Volunteers need NO EXPERIENCE, because ALL TRAINING IS PROVIDED!  Prospective volunteers should be dependable, willing to learn and interested in making a positive difference in the lives of children.

Sunny Days will be held Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 4 pm, beginning Monday, June 25 to Friday, August 17.  Volunteers are asked to commit at least two days each week and to attend a weekly staff meeting every Wednesday.  Also, all volunteers are required to attend a four hour training before the start of Sunny Days.

Volunteers’ duties include assisting staff with daily activities, field trips and transporting children to various places.
