My name is Matt Gelso, I am President of Harbor Light Health Inc. I am a local resident and our company resides here in Downtown Monroe. We provide home health care and home modification services. Our office is located at 49 S. Monroe St. Monroe MI. Our local company was a Major sponsor for the Detroit Lions Kevin VandDam Charity fishing Tournament on June 12th at Kensington Metropark. We entered two disabled anglers compete in the bass tournament that we ended up 17th place overall. We were able to showcase adaptive fishing equipment called The Fishing Doc. for one of our Disabled anglers that has very limited hand movement. The Fishing Doc allows them to cast and reel in fish with the assistance of this very expensive adaptive technology. The Fishing Doc is a motorized unit that allows use of a fishing rod and reel controlled with an interchangeable joystick controller or a "sip & puff" control. Harbor Light Health provides the use of these units free of charge to their clients to use anytime. Harbor Light Health also provides adaptive hunting equipment for their clients to use as well.
We were able to partner up with Bass Pro shop and Tracker boats , who provided us with a tournament ready, handicap accessible pontoon boat for us to fish from.
Jimmy Gretzinger, Host of Michigan out of Doors heard about our story and asked if he could film for a special episode on our disabled fisherman using the Fishing Doc that will be on air in the next couple of weeks. Also B.A.S.S. had a professional Tournament film crew filming the event to be broadcast at a later date on national television.
Our team got to meet Kevin Vandam, Jim Schwartz and most of the Detroit Lions players that were at the event. Kevin Vandam even met
with our anglers before the event and providing them all their baits for the tournament and gave us good tips on how to fish Kent Lake.
