Teens Using Drugs: What To Know/What To Do

Posted: Apr 27, 2012 at 11:34 PM [Apr 27, 2012]

Alcohol and other drug use by young people creates problems personally, at home, at school and in the community that may masquerade as anything but an alcohol/other drug problem. Most substance-involved young people have loving, caring families who would like to help but don’t understand what’s wrong or know what they can do. Teens who are harmfully involved with alcohol/other drugs need help, and the helpers need the right knowledge and tools.

"Teens Using Drugs: What To Know and What To Do" is a free, ongoing, two part program that will be presented on Tuesday May 1, 2012 (part one) and Tuesday May 8, 2012 (part two) from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Part 1 provides information on the development of a substance abuse problem and describes how to recognize when a young person may be involved with alcohol or other drugs. Part 2 provides information on how to help when a teen substance abuse problem is suspected or recognized. The series repeats on the first (part one) and second (part two) Tuesdays of October, November, and January through June each year.

The May programs will be presented by Dawn Farm therapists Jules Cobb LLPC; and Isaac Williamson, LMSW. The series is co-sponsored by Dawn Farm, St. Joe’s Greenbrook Recovery Center, and the Livingston and Washtenaw Coordinated School Health Program Regional Team. The programs are presented in Classroom EC4 (second floor) at the St. Joe's Hospital Education Center, 5305 Elliott Drive, Ypsilanti.  The program is free and open to all - it is targeted primarily to parents/guardians/caretakers of teens, but teens, other family members, people who work with teens and families, parents of substance-involved adults, and anyone interested for any reason are all welcome to come! Registration is not required.
