JOHN CALDER, YPSILANTI'S OWN, SPEECH TECHNIQUE was most effective.
When John Calder Emc'd a banquet, you were in for a real treat. His dry humor penetrated the thick skin of politicians, athletes and those local legends usually in their own mind.
(The Good Lord blessed us with 91-years of John; he passed away on Sunday.)
I have plagiarized his most creative speech technique.
He would pull from his suit-coat pocket a group of photographic slides. And, individually, he would hold them to the ceiling light and describe to the audience (his interpretation) what he saw on each slide.
You guessed it! What he creatively described was out-of-character, humorous behavior by Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti's Rich 'n Famous. All done with John's slow-paced wit.
For insight on his more serious side- including two successful terms as Mayor of Ypsilanti- log on to Obituaries at annarbor.com.
