Have you ever wanted to get up into the locomotive engine and take a ride or just see what the controls are like? Well, you can at Southern Michigan Railroad Society on Saturday, June 30 from 12 noon to 6 p.m. where all the rail cars at their South Rail Yard location at 806 S. Evans Street, Tecumseh, Michigan (6 blocks south of Chicago Blvd) will be on display and open.
This is the second year for "Trains Trucks and More!" which celebrates the history of the rial line and the communities of Clinton and Tecumseh who used the rail service. For thirty years, the volunteers at Southern Michigan Railroad Society have provided rail excursion rides along one of Michigan's oldest rail cooridors, circa 1838.
Tractors, trucks and other equipment will also be onsite for you to get up close or even climb in and on to explore transportation and work equipment. Model railroads, Operation Lifesaver, and historical pictures will be on display, along with a food vendor to curb the hunger or thirsty edges of summer. SMRS maintenance of way vehicles, aka motorcars, will also be available for rides along the rail.
Open to the public, donations are welcomed to support Southern Michigan Railroad, an all volunteer, non profit, operating railroad museum. Celebrating 30 years of operation, come "Ride the Rails" with us! More information on the Society may be found on the web at www.southernmichiganrailroad.com or call 517-456-7677.
