YPSILANTI, MICH – YDL and YSF are BACK! For the sixth year, we’re celebrating the art and craft of songs and songwriters at the Ypsi Song Fest from October 3-6, featuring free events which are open to the public. YDL-Whittaker will host a variety of musical activities throughout the week culminating in a FREE performance at Corner Brewery at 9 pm on Saturday by Sam Llanas, a singer, acoustic guitarist, and songwriter who was active in several roots rock bands (including the BoDeans). Martin Bandyke of ann arbor’s 107one and Sam will talk about music and songwriting at 8 pm prior to his appearance at the Corner Brewery.
No sooner does Sam Llanas announce that he’s left the BoDeans, then he releases a new solo album as if to prove the point. Clearly though, this isn’t any slapdash effort made simply to establish his independence; rather, 4 A.M. is worthy of inclusion alongside the best work of his career, and in some respects, it even bests his recent work with the BoDeans. “Before I ever had a band, I was a solo performer in Waukesha,” he remembers. “I would go and play at these open mic shows, and I learned my craft and honed my stage skills that way. I think this record really reflects that part of my career, that part of my personality. It goes back to before I ever performed with a band. It was just me — one man and one guitar.” Sam is known for his unusual and distinctive voice. YDL looks forward to sharing his amazing talent with the Ypsilanti community.
Throughout the week, the Ypsilanti District Library will be offering other songwriting experiences:
