On September 26, 2010, Selma Café organizers Lisa Gottlieb and Jeff McCabe will host an event to launch their newest project, The Farmer Fund. This initiative will connect community investors with area farmers to further the hoop-house building begun by the proceeds from
Selma Café’s weekly breakfasts. Selma Café is a breakfast salon based in Ann Arbor that showcases local produce and chefs while raising funds to support the development of local, four-season agriculture.
“So far, Selma has been able to aid in the build of seven hoop-houses for local farmers,” says Jeff McCabe. “These lightweight greenhouses allow for year-round planting, which, in turn, translates into fresh, local produce on our tables through all four seasons.”
Lisa Gottlieb adds, “We are deeply committed to co-creating a strong local food economy, and this new socially responsible Farmer Fund program will do just that."
The Farmer Fund kick-off event will be held at Grange Kitchen at Bar, located at 118 West Liberty Street in Ann Arbor. Guests will enjoy local Michigan bubbly, appetizers, and live music.
The cost is $50/person, with a tax deduction of half the ticket price. RSVP to info@selmacafe.org.
