(YPSILANTI, MI) – The Ypsilanti District Library is offering three events on Saturday, June 9, 2012 to kick off its Summer Reading Program. Ypsilanti residents are invited to join in these fun-filled activities and take the opportunity to sign up for summer reading, too.
Starting at 11 am, the Ypsilanti District Library at 5577 Whittaker Road will host a puppet show by Eugene Clark starring Jo-Jo Fish and friends as they travel to recover the magic pearl from Rex the Shark. YDL’s Superior location (8795 MacArthur Blvd.) will be kicking off their summer season by planting a garden and enjoying facepainting from noon to 3 pm.
To wind up the festivities, slip on your flip-flops and head to the Michigan Avenue library (229 W. Michigan) at 4 pm and party down with beach music, jump in a giant bounce house, play games, and take pictures with a shark. Win fun prizes while participating in shark-filled games, water balloon fun, an island cupcake hop, “fishing” for sea life, and more! Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and drive the RC Air Swimmer shark. We’ll bring the party inside the closed library, eat popcorn and watch Shark Tale after-hours on the library’s big screen. Support provided by the Rocket, Ypsilanti Parks and Rec Committee, and the YDL-Michigan Teen Advisory Group and Tween Advisory Board.
