Questions & Answers

QUESTION: What do you see as the most critical issues?

We have an excellent charter, and this issue is only on the ballot because the charter puts it there automatically every 8 election cycles/16 years. I would encourage people to VOTE NO ON THE CHARTER REVISION ISSUE.

QUESTION: What do you want voters to know about you?

I am here to help, if my friends and neighbors wish to consider revising the Charter. However, in my biased opinion as one who helped to write it, I don't think it really needs revision at this point! I encourage everyone to VOTE NO ON THE CHARTER REVISION ISSUE. That being said, I also want to encourage everyone to VOTE YES ON THE TRANSPORTATION CHARTER AMENDMENT. I have been fortunate enough to travel in many foreign countries, and it's great to know you can always count on public transportation to get you where you need to go - and cheaply. It would be a blessing to have a great public transportation system in our country, particularly as Baby Boomers like me begin to age and will need to stop driving!!!

QUESTION: What makes you uniquely qualified for the position?

As a former Charter Commissioner, I remember why we decided to write it the way it currently reads. As someone who ran for Mayor on a platform promising implementation of the (then) New City Charter (which had just been approved by the voters), and as the first Mayor to serve under this charter as fully implemented, I know how valuable it has been to Ypsilanti's recent turn-around.

QUESTION: Why are you seeking office or re-election?

I am on stand-by to help the community if Ypsilantians wish to revise our charter, which I hope they will not want to do. Please vote for me and for the other four community minded people on the ballot. But then please VOTE NO ON THE CHARTER REVISION ISSUE. I know this is odd to ask you to elect me and then eliminate my job, but this is how State Law is written for Charter Commissions. The vote to have a commission or not, and the slate of candidates, all appear on the same ballot.
