Voters should not approve of a GENERAL REVISION to City Charter at this time. The document directs our City as to representation, principles and governance being based on independent, objective judgment and accountability. It is valid and appropriate to the reasonable expectations of the citizens of Ypsilanti.
I have always taken my role as an elected representative seriously and with the full understanding that it is a public trust. Listening and giving full consideration of the facts are important aspects of my decision making process. While I advocate a NO vote on the ballot proposal calling for a new Charter Commission, I will be open to a thorough and diligent review if voters decide that a general revision has merit.
I have had the pleasure to serve as a representative of my community. I have built relationships with the business community, economic development initiatives, non-profit organizations, volunteer and neighborhood groups. My experience has provided me with a broad perspective and afforded me a greater understanding of how government and community interact. I am also familiar with the reactive nature of politics and would approach any revisions to the city charter carefully and thoughtfully.
I am bound by a sense of obligation to this community and look to contribute to its sustainability. Good governance is no accident and requires careful consideration.
