Some of the finest local talent in folk, blues and rock music will perform at the fourth annual Concert for Lost Voices at 6 p.m. Friday, August 27 at the Barnstormer Entertainment Complex in Whitmore Lake.

Lost Voices was founded to give incarcerated and at-risk young people life-changing opportunities. The concert is the most important fundraising event of the year for the nonprofit LV organization, because it allows the group to provide creative outlets for these troubled youths as an alternative to crime and violence.

“In our Lost Voices programs, we help the kids look into their own hearts to write original roots music, then share their feelings by performing in front of their peers in a professional concert setting,” said LV founder Mike Ball in a press release. “Every group we've worked with has experienced tremendous personal growth and healing, not just among the direct program participants, but also among the other at-risk kids who see their peers exploring some of their most difficult thoughts and feelings on stage. The words and music produced in these programs shout out to the world that these young lives are worth saving.”

This year’s concert will feature a few new twists, including a new venue and new music. "As much as we loved doing the event in past years on the water's edge, we were way too vulnerable to weather. And we are excited to be at The Barnstormer, where we can accommodate more people and provide a terrific variety of food and entertainment. It will be a great concert," Ball said.

The concert will feature some familiar performers, including Josh White, Jr., Kitty Donohoe and Reverend Robert Jones, former Silver Bullet Band drummer Charlie Allen Martin, Salem Witchcraft singer Arlen Viecelli, syndicated humorist Mike Ball (with his trio, Dr. Mike and the Sea Monkeys), Cliff Gracey, and an a capella group, Soulstice. New on the bill this year will be the haunting, original music of Annie and Rod Capps.

There will also be a new rock-and-roll vibe.

"For the first time, this year's concert will be on a Friday night," said Ball. "At about 10 p.m. we will shift gears from the folk and blues round-robin, and rock it out until midnight with the original Salem Witchcraft, Detroit's favorite band from the '70s, and the fantastic classic band, Backstage Pass."

The Barnstormer Entertainment Complex is located at 9411 East M-36 in Whitmore Lake. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door for general admission, and $50 for Gold Circle reserved seating. Student tickets are available for $15.

Barnstormer barbecue and beverages will be available for purchase during the show, and doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets along with more information about Lost Voices are available online at the Lost Voices website, or call 313-405-SONG (7664).
