Nonprofit writing and tutoring center 826michigan is set to release its newest student-written publication, "The 826michigan Omnibus, Volume 2." By way of an official launch, 826 Michigan, at 115 East Liberty Street, will host a student reading at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.

"The 826michigan Omnibus, Volume 2" is a collection of fiction, poetry and essays, written by students who participate in 826 Michigan’s after-school tutoring, creative writing workshops, in-school programs and community activities.

"Omnibus" includes work from 75 local, school-aged students, such as: a story about an elephant trying to defeat a simile-stealing cat, written by a classroom of second graders from Erickson Elementary in Ypsilanti; an assortment of hilarious advertisements for products made up by students from University Prep in Detroit; and excerpts from 826's best publications of the year, as well as a story from a drop-in tutoring student who swears she can get to Paris by going under the tables at 826. After the February 2 reading, "The 826 Michigan Omnibus" will be available at Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair, as well as the 826michigan online store and other local bookstores for $10.
