826michigan and Michigan Theater team up to show 'Shut Up and Play the Hits'

Local writing and tutoring center 826michigan and the Michigan Theater will collaborate on December 13 at 7 p.m. to present a screening of the acclaimed new documentary, "Shut Up and Play the Hits," featuring LCD Soundsystem’s last performance at Madison Square Garden. Proceeds from the showing benefit 826michigan’s free creative writing and tutoring programs for students 6-18 in Washtenaw County.

"Shut Up and Play the Hits" is a 2012 documentary film directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace that follows LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy over a 48-hour period, from the day of the band's final gig at Madison Square Garden to the morning after the show. The film also features intermittent segments from an extended interview between Murphy and pop culture writer Chuck Klosterman. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, 2012, and was released in the USA for one night only on July 18, 2012. Notable members of the camera team include Spike Jonze, Yorick Le Saux and Reed Morano.

Tickets for this special screening are $10 general admission ($8 for students and seniors). Proceeds benefit 826michigan’s free programs.
